Some questions we have been asked
1. Can the steel be put on top of a shingled roof?
Yes, the steel can be applied directly over shingles, there is no need to strap the existing roof. The #14 heavy duty screws that we use take a solid hold of the boards or plywood underneath. The shingles act as a good cushion and absorb noise to keep the roof quiet.
2. How long will a steel roof last?
You can expect the paint finish to last for 40 years. The steel can be repainted and has been known to last many more years. The quality is guaranteed and we stand behind our work.
3. How long does it take to get the steel?
All material ordered by Wednesday at noon are received the following Friday. As long as there are no interruptions with our Manufacturer.
4. Is a steel roof noisy in the rain?
No, when a roof is properly insulated, you would seldom hear the rain. Again, shingles act as a good cushion to absorb the noise.
5. Does a metal roof attract lightning?
The myth of a metal roof attracting lightning most likely comes from the fact that metal can be an electrical conductor. A metal roof does not attract lightning any more than other roofing materials. Lightning is attracted to high points, thin points and structures that cover large areas. The likelihood of lightning striking your home depends on it's height and size not the building materials.
The most destructive element of a lightning strike is fire. Should your metal roof be struck by lightning, your metal roof would spread the electricity out eliminating the immediate impact. This is where the metal's fire resistant properties protect your home with it's non-combustible nature.
